Villa Rue Missed Chances
Updated: Sep 3
Ashville controlled the majority of the game in Staffordshire but couldn't find the elusive winning goal.
Ashville bring a point back to the peninsula after a competitive goalless draw away at Abbey Hulton United.
It took nearly half an hour for the first notable chance of the game, both sides struggling to find that killer final ball. As such, it was a set piece which brought the hosts closest to breaking the deadlock on 26 minutes when a free kick from the right was headed just over from an Abbey forward.
That seemed to spark some inspiration in both teams as just a minute later, Tom Davies saw his dipping 25 yard strike cannon off the bar. Ashville unlucky not to take the lead.
Less than 60 seconds later Ashville were on the attack again. The visitors sprung a counter on Abbey Hulton as Tom Davies charged up the middle before finding Sunners in acres of space, overlapping on the right. The ball went slightly wider than Sunners would of liked which gave the Abbey defence time to get across and block his shot.
The second half began and Villa were firmly on the front foot. Several teasing crosses went into the host's box but they resulted in blocked efforts or went begging for a vital touch.
After that early flurry though the game evened out, some half chances for both sides but no goals.
In the 75th minute however, Ashville had the best chance of the game thus far. Some smart build up play found Davies in the right who played a ball into space at the back post where Parrington was ready to tap the ball home. The keeper came out like a flash and got down well to prevent Parrington from sliding the ball under him.
Abbey Hulton had Ashville hearts in mouths in the 89th minute when a long range strike looked to be arrowed into the top corner. To Ashville's relief the effort went wide, just.
And so ended a competitive game which Ashville will feel they should of won but they'll be happy to leave with a point against another team with promotion aims this season.
Next up for Ashville is Sandbach United at home on Tuesday, 7:45pm kick off. Tickets can be bought via the club website.
