Monthly Award For Dixon

Updated: Nov 16

More personal honours at Ashville as Goalkeeper, Michael Dixon, wins NWCFL monthly award.

Football is a team game but sometimes it's an individuals performance which catches the eye, just as we saw last month with Ben Greenop winning the NWCFL's Player Of The Month award.

This time though it is one of Ben's colleagues at the opposite end of the pitch whose standout individual performances have caught the eye the league's awards jury as Michael Dixon picks up October's Goalkeeper Of The Month award.

It is a well deserved award that has been a long time coming, with Dixon being Ashville's hero in many occasions since our NWCFL journey started just over a year ago. Never short of praise from his teammates and fans, Mikey has been an almost ever present in goal since joining the club and has earned his nickname, The Cat, with standout performances and mind blowing saves.

When asked about his feelings on winning the award, Mikey had this to say; "I don't really know what to say because I didn't expect to win it, I don't think it was my best month to be honest!". The award winning stopper continued by praising his defensive colleagues, "Winning an award like this is a reflection on the entire defence, the lads in front of me as well as those on the bench and the other keepers in the squad. We push each other hard in training and we've built such a good connection with each other and that gives us a solid foundation to build on". Dixon continued, "It's always such an honour to be recognised for your individual performances and I'm delighted to win this award and hopefully we can use it as a springboard now as we look to put some silverware in the cabinet, thank you to the North West Counties Football League for this amazing award".

Mikey also shone praise on the team as a whole, saying; "The whole team deserves credit, we challenged ourselves to up the levels this season and so far we are doing that. We are constantly pushing each other and we're building something special at Ashville. It's an exciting time to be involved with the club".

Weather permitting, Dixon will have the award formally handed over to him ahead of this weeks Isuzu FA Vase tie against Holker Old Boys. Tickets for this game can be purchased now via the club website

Well done once again Mikey, hopefully many more to come!
